I am definitely not a personality who makes a good teacher. It simply is not in my blood to lecture those that don’t really care. However once in a while I come across a rare one which has the potential and interest to become something grand. It is at such times that I may take them as an apprentice, giving what I have to give. Much as such knowledge was gratuitously given to me.
Recently I provided this student with a list of web-based MMOs to check out. I wanted a review and response, of opinion, comment for improvement, etc. This especially interested me because this particular individual is a long time PnP RPGer, but has little to no MMO experience at all. For most this would seem like an unimportant, and moreso delayed announcement. However, considering that it is the first & only first person shooter, which I have ever played more than a few minutes -let alone finished- on an console, it’s quite a landmark event for me. I am actually a little annoyed that I enjoyed it as much as I did.
I can say I am much more used to using a controller for FPS, but I still notice it. And I do not believe I will ever be able to confront that deer in the headlights look that NPC’s have while they wait for you to D-stick over to them before opening fire.
Overall however, it was fun. I have a little more respect for consoles now. Still don’t agree with FPS on a controller, but it’s bearable.
